04 — COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

More than a device.
A way to stay connected.

We want every Lantern to be part of something larger: local MeshCore networks that people can build, maintain and use together. MeshCore is an open-source LoRa mesh protocol and firmware — nodes relay for each other, so messages can travel without a tower or a backbone. Our ambition is to help the MeshCore community grow around the world.

Built locally. Connected by a shared ambition.

More Lanterns bring more people into the network. Dedicated repeaters, good placement and local maintainers help that network reach further. We aim to contribute to the wider MeshCore ecosystem, community by community.

A fallback when the usual connections fail.

Our goal is for local AI and short radio messages to remain useful during outages. Planned Starlink-backed gateways would provide an alternative to terrestrial backhaul, and carry authorised requests beyond the local mesh when service is available.

The rollout ahead: powered local radios and repeaters, tested coverage, and community gateways with satellite backhaul. This is a communications fallback for short messages and compact knowledge, with gateway integration still to build and validate. Satellite links also need power and available service. A mesh reaches as far as the people, radios and power in it — relay by relay, no tower, and no promise of coverage.
